Today turned out to be pretty rough. The day started with a walk to the train station with my US colleague in 75 degree weather...at 7am. The day at work wasn't too busy...a typical day really. I walked to the cafeteria for lunch with Andreas F. and Joachim and it was 85+. By the time I was ready to leave my phone was saying it was 95+ in Cologne. The walk to the train was brutal, there is no shade. The only redeeming factor was a light breeze. The big difference is there is relatively low humidity here...which is MUCH different from Pittsburgh...so 95 was actually 95, not 100+.
The train of course was late, but I found out later it was due to some mischief surrounding the G20 summit. The summit is being held in Hamburg on July 7th and 8th. Protestors had set fire to several railway control boxes throwing the entire system into disarray. I'm sure that's not going to make the rest of the week any easier.
By the time I got back to my hotel I was beat. I decided on some pizza and pretzels from the train station for dinner. It was a really filling meal for 6 Euros.
I also mentioned while I was at the office that I was hoping to watch the Formula 1 race this weekend. Shortly after saying that I was invited by Stefan to his house on Sunday to watch the race. He has a new grill that he's excited to try out too. It's going to be weird watching a race in the afternoon since most of them are on early in the morning at home.
